Plath, ‘Cut’
I was chopping chicken when I missed.
The blunt knife didn’t even mark,
let alone leave a satisfying slice
to pinken the kitchen taps
and tell loved ones of. Or,
a plain gash to mention in passing
when my tan plaster was noticed.
I’m all in tact, and the sad fact is that
I am disappointed at the inadequacy
of my own utensils.
