Nicholas Liu - A Fishmonger Dreams of the Fat Captain
by and published in Edition Twelve of Pomegranate
Twice today he has nodded off
mid-stroke, or excitingly close to it.
Twice more he went in the back
and woke with his cheek pressed
against the glass, an eye to his eye.
The belly of a cod, when he sliced into it
became for a moment the soft cheek
of a man; the head stared at him
with the eye of a man. In one mouth he found
a bullet, in another
three brittle pips
perfectly formed.
