Issue 12: Ice
Introduction
Issue 1 of Pomegranate went up on September 23, 2007. In the three years since, we’ve published over 250 poems and articles, been praised by The Times and attacked by a BBC presenter, and brought you work from all over the English-speaking world. Among our contributors who have gone on to fame and fortune are Jon Stone, highly commended in last year’s National Poetry Competition, and John Clegg, whose first collection with Salt is, as we used to say, in the pipeline. Both of them make another appearance in Issue Twelve, though neither of them took any notice of our theme ‘Ice’. Among those who did are Joe Dunthorne, in a characteristically well-crafted comic piece, and Annabella Massey, whose ‘Ice in Leamington’ is a very good example of balancing sound and sense.
If you think there is something valedictory about the previous paragraph, you are both wrong and right: Pomegranate is changing tack. We are experimenting with a new format, in which we will publish articles and poems on the blog on a rolling basis. Superstitious readers wanting to know whether there will be an Issue 13 will have to wait and see. From now on, content will be updated whenever we receive something of high quality, so keep the submissions coming.
